Understanding manuscript statuses
-
Submitted manuscript: The journal has received the submission and is conducting an
initial editorial assessment to identify potential issues and verify compliance with technical
requirements.
- Conflicts of interest.
- Compliance with editorial policy and ethical standards.
- Financial disclosure.
At this stage, authors may receive submissions back for revisions or clarifications. Only after passing this initial review, manuscripts will be sent for peer review.
- Appointment of Peer Reviewers: Once the manuscript passes the initial screening and technical requirements, the Editor assigns two peer reviewers based on the subject area of the manuscript. The reviewers evaluate the manuscript according to Anatomy and Morphology publication criteria, considering the journal's evaluation guidelines. The potential reviewers are selected based on their expertise in areas relevant to the manuscript. The invitations to reviewers are sent via email. Based on their evaluation guidelines and experience, reviewers may choose to accept the manuscript without modifications, accept it with minor or major modifications, or reject it. The editor can also participate in the evaluation process or assign external reviewers if necessary. The editor makes the final decision on whether additional expert reviews are required to evaluate the manuscript. Once the reviewers agree to review the manuscript, they typically have 15 days to complete the task. The authors are informed of any delays.
- Editorial Decisions: The Editor makes the final decision on publication of each submission based on the reviewer's feedback, Anatomy and Morphology criteria for publication, and the Editor's own evaluation of the manuscript. The time to receive a decision depends on the Editor's evaluation of the reviews.
- Revisions: If the authors receive a minor or major revision decision, they have 20 days to resubmit the revised manuscript. The revised manuscript will then be sent to the editor to confirm that the necessary adjustments indicated by the reviewers have been made. If necessary, it will be sent back to the original evaluator to verify the modifications.
- Manuscript Accepted: Acceptance is issued when the final checks are completed. At this point, the item will be sent to the production department.
- Communication with authors: All communications regarding the acceptance decision will be sent to the corresponding author.
